Kim Fields Celebrates Her Facts of Life Roots

Kim Fields’ performance for Monday’s Dancing with the Stars “Most Memorable Year” week was a trip back in time – way back, to her Facts of Life days.

And even Mrs. Garrett (Charlotte Rae) was watching in the audience to cheer her on!

Fields, 46, performed a sitcom-flavored foxtrot dressed in her Eastland best, accompanied by a cover of the classic theme song.

As judge Carrie Ann Inaba gushed afterward, she could hardly tell any time had passed: “Why do you look exactly the same?” she jokingly asked Fields.

“The idea of foxtrotting to the Facts of Life theme song sounds like complete oil and water and yet it works incredibly well,” Fields told PEOPLE before the show. “[Partner] Sasha [Farber] is an incredible choreographer and visionary and he’s doing everything he can to make sure I’m connecting with what my story is and revisiting my childhood.”

Indeed, she said, her “most memorable” experience began with a single moment, and then stretched out to cover way more than just it year. Her first acting gig came in 1976, in a Mrs. Butterworth syrup commercial – leading to guest appearances on Good Times and then her run on the beloved The Facts of Life.
